Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Storage & Server)

This is an office-based role, 5 days per week in either our Bristol or Newcastle locations.

What you will be doing:

  • Design, implement, and maintain storage and server infrastructure in both a Microsoft Windows and Redhat Linux architecture.
  • Provide expert guidance for the installation, configuration, and optimization of server hardware and software to ensure performance and availability is aligned and meets with operational agreements.
  • Manage storage systems to ensure capacity, availability, and integrity requirements are aligned and meet with operational and service demand.
  • Monitor server and storage performance, identifying bottlenecks and issues that impact the service and implement solutions to optimize performance.
  • Server and Storage task automation management.
  • Creating both high and low-level documentation detailing system design, auditing requirements, and compliance with MOD standards.
  • Manage system availability across multiple data centres.
  • Taking a lead role in server and storage incident responses, including troubleshooting, impact assessment root cause analysis and implementing to resolve problems in a timely manner.

What you will bring:

  • Technical storage and server infrastructure skills in a secure enterprise environment, for example: Advanced Infrastructure skills covering administration, fault finding/diagnosis and fix, incident management and response coordination.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Server and Redhat Linux Operating system.
  • Experience using the following storage and server technologies: HP Servers, HP Storage SAN/NAS, HP OneView, Server Automation, Operations Manager (OpenText), Pure Storage, SAN Fabric, Brocade/HP Switching.
  • Knowledge of storage and server automation frameworks, technologies and toolsets.
  • Scripting knowledge e.g. PowerShell, Bash and Python.

It would be great if you had:

  • Experience of working in complex MOD secure environments.
  • Experience of leading technical teams to complete project tasks.
  • Strong stakeholder and communication skills.
  • Accreditation to technical level or equivalent experience essential, and accreditation in another technology area preferred.
  • An understanding of the Secure-by-Design principles, and an awareness of the relevant MOD Joint Service Publications i.e. JSP440, JSP604 and Defence Standards publications.
