Finance Manager

A surging charity in central London are seeking an interim Finance Manager to join them in a fixed term contract until October this year. The ideal candidate will have strong management accounts, VAT, and payroll experience, and it would be desirable for the candidate have experience using Business Central.

What you'll do – the key responsibilities

Financial Operations and Reporting

  • Work autonomously to ensure the effective operation and development of the organisation's operations and systems, within the Finance team's agreed budget.
  • Provide monthly management accounts, including insight behind the variances, to Budget holders and meet with them to understand the linkage between operations and cost and the cause of any variances versus budget.
  • Operational reporting and insight as required including weekly cash and debtor reporting.
  • Ensure that transactions are recorded in a timely manner in line with policies including reconciliations and the month-close process.
  • Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns.
  • Payroll (including HMRC and pension) submissions and payments are accurate and on time.
  • Clear, up-to-date and complete documentation to support all aspects of financial operations.
  • Effective, efficient and accessible support for the organisation on all operational financial matters.

Finance Systems

  • Maintain oversight of the systems and processes in place in the Finance Department and ensure these are fit for purpose.
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement to deliver improvements in efficiency, accuracy, assurance and ease of use.
  • Work with HR to ensure finance systems are promptly updated to reflect employee changes.

What you'll need – the person specification

  • Some staff management experience in a high performing, collaborative and inclusive team. Ideally this will be for an organisation with a minimum of £7m turnover.
  • Experienced in all payroll processes - calculations, submissions and payment.
  • Excellent knowledge, proficiency and confidence using Microsoft Office, in particular the use of Excel for analysing data, creating reports and data modelling.
  • Experience using cloud based financial systems (the ideal candidate will have experience using Microsoft Business Central and Webexpenses).
  • As well as strong numerical skills, you must be an excellent problem solver with clear communication that can be adapted for a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of all core financial processes and up to date knowledge of technical requirements and best practices.
  • Ability to balance a strategic perspective without losing the importance and focus of detail in operational delivery.
  • Track record of delivering to tight deadlines and overcoming setbacks.
  • Experience of working successfully in a changing organisation where flexibility, agility and adaptability are essential.
  • Experience of working for a charity is preferable but not essential.
