The Role:

  • Permanent role
  • 2 on 4 off rolling shift pattern which include sleeps in the residential home
  • Salary from £24,357.40 to £25,665.25 depending on experience/qualifications
  • Overtime is available through a rota app
  • Location: Chipping, Preston.

Looking for a new challenge? We have an exciting opportunity for a Residential Support Worker to join our team in creating a safe, caring and positive environment for young people.

Our Homes adopt a therapeutic practice, providing support to young people with emotional behavioural difficulties and challenging behaviours.

As a residential support worker, you will be inspiring and encouraging young people between 8-16 years of age to develop and maintain the necessary social and living skills to enjoy a fulfilling life whilst ensuring their physical and emotional care needs are also met.

Working as part of a team, you will be providing day to day support to create a safe, caring and nurturing environment for the young people to live in. This will include planning and participating in leisure and social activities, supporting personal care and school routines, preparation of meals, setting boundaries and completing daily records and relevant documentation.

While this role is extremely rewarding, no two days are the same, and some will be challenging, so you must have confidence in managing and adapting to these situations. You will also work closely with social workers, healthcare professionals and education teams so you will need great communication and people skills.

Your aim is to assist young people in experiencing a wide range of varied opportunities and activities, helping them breakthrough barriers and learn new life skills to become independent in the future.

The Responsibilities:

  • Work independently, within the Policies, Procedures and Guidelines with or without supervision
  • Carry out all duties, tasks and responsibilities in accordance with the Home's Statement of Purpose/Principles of Care
  • Participate in leisure, social and hobby activities with the children/young people
  • Escort, assist, encourage and monitor programmes of re-integration back into main stream social, educational and leisure pursuits inside and outside of the Home.
  • Assist and encourage children/young people to develop and maintain the necessary social and living skills to enjoy a fulfilling life
  • Assist, support and encourage children/young people in the preparation of meals and snacks, washing-up and cleaning of the individual's bedroom/private space.
  • Complete relevant documentation and daily records for the children/young persons in relation to meeting the Home's and legislative requirements
  • Participate and contribute in staff meetings and staff training
  • Administer medication, completing the appropriate records and following the appropriate policy, procedure and guidelines.
  • Actively oppose discriminatory practice in relation to the children/young people, colleagues and visitors whether based on religion, gender, race, disability, cultural or sexual orientation
  • Accompany children/young people on organized holidays and outings
  • Help maintain and support each individual's meaningful relationships, links outside the Home, especially with the family and local community.

To be eligible for this role, you must:

  • Hold a full UK driving licence and drive your own car.
  • Have Right to Work in the UK with no restrictions on hours you can work.
  • Hold, be studying, or willing to undertake a Level 4 NVQ in Children, Young People and Family Practitioner to be completed within 2 years of your start date.
  • Ideally have 1+ year experience working with children age 8 -16 in a residential setting, however other relevant support worker/child related experience will be considered.

You will be a team player with the ability to build positive relationships with young people and motivate them to take part in education and activities.

Attention to detail is key, ensuring all information is correctly recorded in our systems and you must have a commitment to your own training and development.
