Job Overview:
We are seeking a caring and dedicated 1:1 Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to provide individualised support to a pupil in a primary school in Richmond. The successful candidate will work closely with a child who requires additional help due to special educational needs, ensuring they can access the curriculum, develop key skills, and thrive in their learning environment.

This role is offered for the academic year, with the potential for extension. It is ideal for someone passionate about making a significant, positive impact on a child's educational experience in a supportive and inclusive school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide focused one-to-one support to a designated pupil with special educational needs, ensuring their individual learning and emotional needs are met.
  • Implement and adapt strategies as outlined in the pupil's Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP), in collaboration with the class teacher and SENCo.
  • Assist the pupil in accessing the curriculum by tailoring materials and approaches to suit their learning style and developmental needs.
  • Support the pupil's social and emotional development, helping them manage challenges, build positive relationships, and foster independence.
  • Work closely with the class teacher to monitor and track the pupil's progress, providing regular feedback to help adjust their Individual Education Plan (IEP) as needed.
  • Promote positive behaviour, assisting the pupil in managing any emotional or behavioural challenges in line with the school's policies.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and motivating environment for the pupil, both in the classroom and during other school activities.
  • Liaise with other staff, external professionals, and the pupil's parents or carers to ensure consistent and effective support.
  • Provide personal care where required, ensuring the pupil's dignity and well-being at all times.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with SEN, ideally within a primary school setting, and in a one-to-one support role.
  • A patient, nurturing, and adaptable approach to supporting children with additional needs.
  • Ability to modify teaching strategies and resources to meet the pupil's individual learning needs.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with the class teacher, SENCo, and external specialists.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification) are desirable but not essential.
  • Previous experience supporting children with developmental or learning difficulties such as Autism, ADHD, or other related conditions is highly advantageous.

Benefits:

  • A supportive and inclusive school community with a strong commitment to SEN inclusion.
  • Opportunities for continuous professional development and training.
  • A rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to a child with special educational needs.
