Recovery Officer-Council Tax & Business Rates

Reed Public Sector is actively looking for a Revenues Recovery Officer for a Local Authority in Oxfordshire on Temp or FTC

Contract Length: upto 6 months with a possibility of getting extended

Hourly rate: between £16.49 PAYE - Umbrella option also available

Role purpose

  • Responsible for collecting money due for Council Tax, Business Rates
  • Negotiate repayment plans or take recovery action where a plan cannot be agreed
  • Identify suitable cases for legal enforcement, referral to Advice Centres and write-off

Role responsibilities and main duties To collect money due in respect of Council Tax, Business Rates.

Main duties include:

  • processing incoming data in accordance with legislation and Council Policies to ensure the collection of Council Tax, Business Rates is made correctly
  • interrogating and cross referencing on all data base systems that are available to verify liability and assist in the collection of monies due
  • following the recovery procedures to decide the best action to take to collect the money due
  • initiating contact and follow up with customers who have fallen behind with payments
  • obtaining up to date financial information to maximise customer income and negotiate repayment plans
  • maximising take up of benefits, discounts, exemptions and reliefs for those entitled to them
  • escalating cases to Senior Recovery Officers where normal recovery tools are ineffective or are challenged
  • recommending cases to be written-off where further recovery activity is not appropriate
  • support the development and delivery of the Revenues service, making recommendations to aid continuous improvement and ensure innovation is pursued and recognised

Must have recent experience of using Civica (Open Revenues)
