My client, a leading public sector organisation, are looking for a dedicated Chef to join their team, providing nutritious and varied meals across different children's homes in Leicester. The role involves preparing menus that cater to a diverse range of cultural needs and dietary requirements, including Asian, Caribbean, Vegetarian, Traditional English cuisine, and special diets. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting young people in developing their independence skills through cooking and kitchen hygiene education.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Plan menus and provide a range of dishes to cater for different tastes, dietary requirements, and cultures, including gluten-free, vegetarian, Caribbean, Asian, and traditional British cuisine.
  • Prepare packed lunches for outings and serve refreshments for meetings as required.
  • Order all provisions in consultation with the Team Manager/Administrator, receive and check delivery notes, and maintain appropriate stock control/rotation systems within agreed budgets.
  • Support young people in developing independence skills related to food preparation, cooking, kitchen hygiene, and basic nutritional advice.
  • Prepare, cook, and serve meals for groups of ten to twenty people, ensuring high quality, quantity, and presentation of food.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Previous catering experience is essential.
  • Ability to provide a range of dishes as requested, catering to various dietary needs and cultural preferences.
  • Must hold a basic food hygiene certificate or be willing to attend training.
  • Catering qualification is desirable.
  • Competency in ordering and managing store provisions, ensuring stock control/rotation, and menu planning.
  • Creativity in menu planning to provide a diverse range of dishes.
