About Police Digital Service

Police Digital Service strives to be the go-to partner for technology developments and programmes across UK policing. Our team provides technical advice and delivers services to help policing and law enforcement organisations across the UK prioritise and focus on technology efforts.

The National Management Centre will provide visibility and control of information risks for Policing. It will support the 24x7x365 nature of the police operations, providing a threat detection and response capability for digital services before, during and after cyber attacks, enabling stakeholders to understand and proactively manage risk across the technology estate at both the national and force level.

Role overview

As NMC Process Writer, you will be responsible for creating comprehensive, user-friendly documentation that can be easily understood by both technical and non-technical audiences. Your work will involve collaborating closely with senior stakeholders and teams across the NMC, to gather necessary information and ensure accuracy in the documentation.

We are looking for a skilled process writer, to join our team and help elevate our client-focused services to new heights. The ideal candidate will have proven success in a producing high-quality documentation in a technical field. A background in Cyber Security or technology will be highly advantageous, providing the context needed to produce relevant and accurate materials. The ability to evaluate and analyse complex information alongside a natural desire to help people understand it, is important in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for the development of comprehensive process documentation that meets organisational and operational standards.
  • You will work closely with various teams and stakeholders in order to gain a deep understanding of the NMC Cyber Security products and services and translate complex information into simple, polished, engaging, user-friendly content.
  • You will work closely with subject-matter experts to gather insights and clarify complex concepts to develop, organise and write procedure manuals, technical specifications and process documentation.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring the consistency and quality of the process documentation across the NMC, ensuring the regular evaluation and continuous review of current content to reflect new features and changes and the development of innovative methods for improvement.
  • You will work with service leads to identify documentation repositories and determine the best solutions for data compilation and centralised storage.

What you need to succeed in the role

Essential:

  • Two or more years of experience as an effective technical writer
  • Proven ability to quickly learn and understand complex subject matter
  • Experience in writing clear, concise and structured documentation and procedure manuals for various audiences
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and professional demeanour
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a meticulous eye for detail
  • The ability to articulate technical understanding to plain simple English in an effective manner.
  • Experience working with operational teams to improve services, operational execution, refine content, and create visuals and diagrams for technical support content
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritise, and manage time effectively in high-pressure environments
  • Ability to acquire SC and NPPV3 level clearances

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience in cyber security or technology organisations

All applicants must be eligible for NPPV3 and SC clearances. Successful applicants will require NPPV3 clearance to have been approved before starting with PDS.
