Electrical Design Engineer

We're working exclusively with a highly successful specialist engineering company based in Saffron Walden as they seek an Electrical Design Engineer. Candidates must either have a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related mechatronic qualification, though candidates with substantial experience in a similar role where the electrical understanding and experience has been learnt on the job will also be considered. Ideally, candidates will come with experience developing products or complex components within power/EV/batteries product manufacturers, though candidates with experience developing wider products with an electrical element, will also be considered.

You must be both an experienced CAD designer and a hands-on engineer, who enjoys making things from ideation and seeing your work come to life. You must have extensive R&D experience to help the business understand the challenges in their markets and how they can create new product ranges to solve complex issues or adapt current products to appeal better to existing and wider audiences. One of the company's USPs is that it designs, prototypes and manufactures everything in the UK from its Essex facility. So other than ordering the components, the wiring, metal fabrication and other methods can all be done on-site.

The company has a range of current off-the-shelf products but can also provide specialist bespoke solutions. As such all candidates must be super flexible, and happy to work across multiple differing timelines for projects at any one time.

Key focuses of the role will be:

  • Designing, developing, and testing electrical systems, circuits, and components.
  • drive forward the development of next generation of solutions for number of safety critical markets. The successful candidate will be driven by innovation and strive to deliver excellence in everything they do. Applying principles from electrical engineering to create technologies for various applications.
  • Play a crucial role in the development of cutting-edge technology. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing the electrical systems that power and control various components within new and existing platforms. Your expertise will contribute to the advancement of sustainable transportation technology. Developing existing solutions, using electromechanical design skills generating new designs to customer or internal requirements

Desired Experience:

  • Electrical / Mechatronics engineering qualifications to degree level or a equivalent industry experience with an apprenticeship qualification.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for electrical design (e.g., eplan or similar: Number 1 systems, SolidWorks Electrical, Alturim, AutoCAD, or similar).
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations Standards & Regulations: CE, UKAS, NEC, IEEE, IEC Standards, NEMA, NFPA 70, 18th edition.
  • Experience in developing specifications for programming e.g instruction blocks, flow diagrams to enable management of outsourcing of coding

All applicants must be motivated self-starters so that they can be trusted to operate with minimal supervision, bringing a minimum of 3 years of related experience. As well as familiarity with electrical safety standards and testing procedures.
