We are seeking an experienced Principal Designer to join a long-standing client- a well-established architectural practice with over 50 years of expertise in sectors including Logistics, Education, Leisure, and more. This role requires a proactive leader to oversee design safety, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations across projects valued from £500,000 to £200 million.

The ideal candidate will bring a collaborative mindset, BIM proficiency, and the ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams. You will ensure full compliance with CDM 2015 regulations while promoting creative, safe, and sustainable design solutions.

As part of the role, you will join an award-winning practice, contributing to diverse, innovative projects while maintaining our reputation for timely, budget-conscious delivery.

Skills, Experience & Responsibilities for the role of Principal Designer:

  • Oversee health & safety risks in design from concept to delivery.
  • Coordinate with architects, clients, and contractors for smooth project workflows.
  • Ensure timely compliance with CDM regulations across multiple sectors.
  • Manage design risk assessments and provide H&S advice.
  • Strong knowledge of CDM 2015 and industry standards.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • BIM proficiency and multi-disciplinary collaboration experience.
  • Project management skills with attention to timelines and budgets.
  • Identify and manage health & safety risks during the design process.
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Facilitate compliance and risk mitigation from concept to handover.
  • Prepare design risk assessments and ensure BIM integration.
  • Expertise in CDM 2015 regulations and project safety.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in BIM and project management tools.
  • Experience across multiple sectors (e.g., Logistics, Education, Leisure).
