Job Description

Working as part of our Management Services Team you will be responsible for the day -to-day management and operation of the finance function. Controlling and posting finance data and producing reports from the accounts system.

The main responsibilities include:

  • Posting supplier invoices, reconciling supplier statements and arranging payments.
  • Posting fee invoices, credit notes, bill and disbursement writes offs.
  • Monitoring and arranging payments to clients and other parties.
  • Various reconciliations referring to office and client bank accounts and posting between them.
  • Managing credit control and unbilled disbursements.
  • Carrying out routine finance tasks including month end and financial year end reports.
  • Supervising the Finance Assistant and providing appropriate training.
  • Assisting the Finance Director when required.
  • Assisting with the provision and collation of information for auditors.
  • Undertaking special finance projects from time to time.
  • Generating performance reports of individual departments and fee-earners.
  • Handling accounts queries from staff.
  • Ensuring compliance with the firm's policies, procedures and SRA rules.

Applicant Criteria

The successful candidate will be organised with meticulous attention to detail and a positive work ethic. You will have previous experience of working in a finance role, ideally but not necessarily within the legal profession. A working knowledge of SRA accounts rules is preferred but not essential.

Required skills and experience:

  • Meticulous, tidy and able to comply with finance system deadlines.
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills, liaising with colleagues, clients and other professional parties.
  • Strong IT skills with a sound knowledge of legal accounts software and experience working with excel spreadsheets.
  • Self-motivated, proactive with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Team working attributes, with a constant departmental improvement attitude.
  • Identifier of unusual results, risk events and associated reporting obligations.
