Financial Services IT Business Analyst

We now have a vacancy on their team in Basingstoke for an IT focused, Business Analyst.

Role Description

The Business Analyst aligns business needs with technical capabilities within an Agile framework. They act as the liaison between team members, understanding product requirements and translating them for the team to create valuable and workable product features. The Business Analyst will perform duties such as user story creation, defining acceptance criteria, backlog refinement and supporting the team in achieving sprint goals. The role will also require the candidate to interrogate our data estate in order to support and inform the business on the impact a specific change will have.

Key Responsibilities

  • Eliciting requirements - defining the capabilities of a product that allow it to meet the needs of its users and is fully testable. This will span both functional, non-functional, data and reporting requirements in accordance with company standards.
  • Running workshops - facilitating workshops/discussions/focus groups with key stakeholders/Product Owners to understand needs and expectations.
  • User story management - creating, prioritising and refining user stories with support from Product Owners and adhering to the INVEST principle.
  • Acceptance criteria - using Gherkin syntax, write acceptance criteria to govern what standards newly developed solutions must meet to be deemed fit for purpose.
  • Software delivery lifecycle support - works with the Scrum Master, Product Owner and development team to break down the user stories into manageable tasks, estimate their complexity and decide what the team can achieve in the next sprint.
  • In-development support - reaffirming end-users requirements are being met, adapting the backlog and remaining flexible to any changes in prioritisation or technical challenges.
  • User acceptance testing - manage the user acceptance testing, recording feedback and working with the Product Owner and development teams to introduce UAT outcomes into sprints
  • Defect management - provide support for defect management when running UAT for a specific project or using the JIRA platform to record any production related defects
  • Reporting - working with the Data Team, monitor and analyse on a regular basis all reports and reporting needs
  • Innovation - stay up to date with technology systems and advances in the intermediary sector
  • Carry out other responsibilities set out by management

Knowledge required for this position

  • An understanding of the stages and cycles of software development
  • Experienced in using JIRA & Confluence
  • Competent technical knowledge
  • Experienced in MS Suite (most notably Excel, Visio and Powerpoint)
  • You will have a passion for technology and innovation.
  • Broad business knowledge of the Financial Services area (preferably Insurance but not essential)

Essential Skills

  • Technical understanding - ability to take an operational requirement and develop a user story that the development team can design a technical approach/solution
  • Collaboration - ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders within Operational areas and IT development teams. Required to collaborate within a distinct Project Team when key deliveries are underway.
  • Stakeholder management - ability to manage multiple stakeholders from different areas of the business. Confident when working with Executives.
  • Adaptability - must be dynamic and able to adapt quickly to changes in prioritisation, requirements and Product Owner direction.
  • Problem solving - ability to support any problems with a positive mindset and a make suggestion to how problems can be overcome whilst considering operational and technical limitations.
  • Critical thinking - analyse information from various sources, discern underlying needs and design effective mock-ups / wireframes to support business/technical outcomes.
  • Documentation - Ability to deliver quality documentation, including risk and benefits of the proposed solution and initial wireframes or diagrams

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience operating in a Business Analyst role, developing business requirements and technical specification documentation
  • Experience working in a Financial Services company or working within a regulatory environment

The Package

  • Up to £56k per annum depending on experience
