The Opportunity

QBE Europe is currently recruiting for an assistant accountant to join a well-established and successful finance team in our Stafford office. In this position you will be accountable for processing, analysis and reporting of financial transactions and information. Assisting with general accounting, and preparing various management reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis ensuring accuracy and consistency of underlying data.

Your new role

Policy, Process and Procedures

  • Ensure that all processes conducted are documented in a standard format and that this is maintained in an accessible fashion.
  • Ensure training and knowledge is up to date. This includes but is not limited to mainframe applications and general insurance accounting.
  • All documentation up to date
  • Compliance requirements and individual accreditation levels are maintained.

Environmental Awareness/Customer Focus

  • Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, both internal and external, including external auditors, to ensure service delivery meets customer expectations.
  • Cordial and productive business relationship with peer group.

Technical Performance

  • Contribute to the preparation and maintenance of accurate accounting records in accordance with internal procedures and statutory requirements to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, codes of conduct and best practice guidelines.
  • Undertake month end activities such as reconciliation of key control accounts and analysis of accounts to ensure correct procedures are followed.
  • Ensure internal reporting deadlines are fully met.
  • Any ad-hoc investigation/project work successfully completed on time.

About you

  • Be a part-qualified accountant (for example ACA, ACCA or CIMA)?or equivalent or have relevant years of working experience.
  • Have an good understanding of best-practice accounting (in an insurance environment preferred,?although strong candidates from other industries will be considered)
  • Have good working knowledge of relevant accounting software and tools.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to manage priorities to meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Teamwork – able to collaborate and work flexibly with others.
  • Microsoft Office applications, in particular Microsoft Excel
