An experienced Town Planner with a residential planning background is needed to join our team at Fernfield Homes, a leading residential developer based in Kent, on a full-time basis. This role offers some work-from-home flexibility.

You'll work closely with our Land Director and report directly to the Board. A solid understanding of the 5-year housing supply across Kent and an interest in ever-shifting Government Planning Policy will be important.

The role will suit an experienced Town Planner or Senior Town Planner from a residential planning background, either working for a developer or a planning consultancy.

This is an excellent opportunity to progress your career with a well-established company!

About Us

We are a small, friendly, highly motivated, growing residential developer in Kent. A Fernfield development typically has between 4 and 10 premium homes, but we have multiple 30-50 unit sites in the pipeline for 2024-2026. We value quality over quantity, and our long-term target is to deliver around 50 new high-quality homes per year. You will be fundamental in helping us achieve our objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all aspects of the planning phase
  • Taking our land opportunities from the initial stage of assessing planning viability through to the preparation of pre-app meetings
  • Management of external consultants
  • Preparation and submission of outline and detailed planning applications
  • Liaison with Planning Officers and other stakeholders, all with the single-minded focus of achieving successful planning permissions
  • Confidently pursue the discharge of conditions and planning amendments as necessary
  • Day to day, you will be responsible for multiple applications, both large and small, at any given time
  • In the background, you'll work alongside our Land Director to stay abreast of emerging development plans in our key locations

Required Skills:

  • Thorough understanding of planning policy
  • Enthusiastic and passionate interest in local and neighbourhood plans and relevant SPDs
  • You will be well-versed in the intricacies of affordable housing and other developer contributions, such as S106 and CIL
  • Ideally, MRTPI qualified (or working towards chartered status), although we are open to high-quality candidates from all backgrounds

Benefits:

  • A very strong, industry-leading bonus package linked directly to the value of the permissions you help secure
  • Opportunity to grow with us by becoming a fundamental and indispensable part of the business
  • Over time, you will likely build a whole team around you, and you will be rewarded accordingly
