Job Title: Electromagnetic Simulation and Modelling Engineer

Salary: up to £55,000 depending on experience

Location: Bristol (We may be able to offer a relocation package for this role)

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 2-3 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship.

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) department is like no other within MBDA. It is split between a test team working hands on in our state of the art EMC Facility to simulate environments and a highly skilled project consultancy team that is embedded across all projects within MBDA to ensure good EMC practice & design.

This role is within our EMC Project Team who support MBDA programmes throughout their product lifecycles from concept through to disposal. You will have a background in either simulation and modelling or EMC and will be supporting the department's digital transformation effort, investigating, exercising and developing modelling techniques for EMC to help us better influence our product design and potentially reduce the EMC testing burden.

What we're looking for from you:

Essential

  • Higher education or significant experience within subject fields: Electronics, Electrical, Physics, EMC or similar.
  • Good understanding of electromagnetics

OR

simulation and modelling

  • Excellent communication skills at all levels, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work to defined deadlines and within budget limits.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Professional manner and adaptability when the companies needs are evolving.
  • Capable of working autonomously to meet the delivery needs of the company

Desirable

  • In-depth knowledge of EM wave phenomena; e.g. wave guides, electro-optical devices, coupling, shielding and absorption.
  • Prior experience of 3D; time-domain or static FEM simulation (3D CAD and CST modelling experience would also be a bonus)
  • The ability to filter, analyse and extract scientifically defensible conclusions from abstract data, large datasets or ambiguous data; [MATLAB or Python would be an advantage]
