Payroll Specialist/Advisor - 6 month Fixed Term Contract

Ideally to start by early July 2024

£27,000 - £30,000 (depending on experience)

Hybrid working - 2 days in the office, 3 days working from home

Our very friendly, collaborative, team-spirited client have operated in and around the UK for over 40 years and are very proud of their achievements to date. This newly created role, initially for 6 months, will see you working with one of the friendliest Payroll teams in the Reading area and you will be working with a very close-knit Payroll Team.

In this role, you will provides advice and support and you will be responsible for timely responses to payroll queries through the payroll log administration and on the telephone and via email.

The successful Payroll Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Handling Payroll queries from all employees (shared between the Payroll Team), for a business with c9,000 employees
  • General administration responsibilities of the HR and Payroll system including answering queries from the log and updating log responses accordingly
  • Follow up all administration requests paying attention to detail and accuracy at all times
  • Be the first point of contact for all users and managers with queries relating to payroll and payroll administration
  • Deal efficiently and in a timely manner with queries generated by phone or email from users of managers
  • Have specific responsibility for various technical areas of the system management, such as attachment of earnings (AOE), salary advances requests, providing P45 and P60s to past employees, transfer of positions
  • Supporting supervisors in preparing for payroll cut off days
  • Resolving issues with the system or escalates the problem to the Payroll Supervisor as necessary
  • Supporting the supervisors and managers in using the system by helping with queries and providing coaching in system use
  • Maintain positive working relationships with site managers and operations directors through consistent communication and excellent customer service.

The successful Payroll Specialist/Advisor is likely to offer:

  • Relevant payroll experience ideally in a high volume payroll team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work with multiple row spreadsheets. Intermediate excel skills including formulas, vlookup, pivot tables, multi-level filtering
  • Positive energy with a can-do attitude
  • The ability to hit the ground running and who can start within short notice (by early July 2024)
  • Recent experience of working on Payroll Systems - iTRENT preferred
