Salary Band: £38,223 - £40,221 dependants on experience. If you are interested in the role on an interim basis an hourly rate can be discussed.

We are looking for an Exchequer Services Team Leader to join our diverse and innovative team at Trafford Council. This role is crucial for managing a team of Exchequer staff and delivering first-class services across various financial domains. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Revenues or Financial services and be adept at leading and motivating staff to achieve excellence in service delivery.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Recruit, induct, develop, and support a team delivering front-line customer services to ensure resolution of enquiries, complaints, and requests for services promptly.
  • Supervise the workload of the team, optimising service provision and administrative support.
  • Proactively drive service improvements and take responsibility for specific projects.
  • Monitor key outcomes against targets within a performance management framework to ensure targets are met.
  • Provide influential input to the decision-making process on strategy, policy development, efficiency, and encourage a culture of continual improvement.
  • Handle enquiries, complaints, and requests for information and advice from both internal and external customers, including Ombudsman cases and those from Councillors and MPs.
  • Deal with complex and difficult cases, including reviews, appeals, and the preparation of cases for Appeal Tribunals.
  • Represent the Authority at the Magistrates Court for various financial proceedings.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent formal training plus 3 years' experience in a similar Revenues or Financial background.
  • Evidence of continuing relevant professional development.
  • Experience in persuading, influencing, and negotiating successfully with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in handling situations involving conflict.
  • Extensive knowledge of Exchequer Service legislation and procedures.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage staff.
