About the role

Manchester Adult Education has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivating English skills lecturer to join our maths and English team. The role will involve the planning, delivery and assessment of part-time adult courses. These courses could include Functional Skills English (Entry Level to Level 2), GCSE English, Level 3 English for literacy and language teaching and other context specific courses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To deliver teaching and learning to at least a consistently good or outstanding standard.
  • To assess learners and work accurately against appropriate awarding body criteria/key course targets to ensure learners achieve their qualifications/course goals.
  • To comply with safeguarding procedures.
  • To take course leadership responsibilities.
  • To take part in team meetings and working groups.
  • To ensure close liaison and good communications with other staff in matters concerning learners.
  • To comply with the service quality assurance procedures.
  • To comply with the service policies and procedures including maintaining records on learners including attendance and achievement.
  • To take personal and professional responsibility for keeping up to date in the subject area and administration processes.
  • To Positively represent the MAES both internally and externally at all times.

You will be joining a committed and supportive team of teachers who are passionate about supporting adult learners in the community to improve their English skills to secure employment, advance to higher education and achieve their full potential.

About the Candidate

We are looking for candidates who can inspire adult learners to develop their skills and aspirations to enable learners to improve employment opportunities, confidence, health or helping their families.

Have a track record of successfully delivering English courses to varying skills and knowledge levels including learners with additional needs.

Hold GCSE A* - C / 9 - 4 in English or equivalent (essential)

Hold GCSE A* - C / 9 - 4 in Maths or equivalent (essential)

Hold a teaching qualification, ideally to Level 5 (subject specialism) or willingness to work towards

Commitment to develop your teaching skills and qualifications (essential)

We welcome applications from newly and recently qualified teachers, as well as established teachers.

Experience of teaching adult learners is required and candidates are expected to have maintained their competency in a recent teaching role.

You should be able to demonstrate:

Professional and academic competence/qualifications to teach on the courses.

Experience of adopting a range of teaching and learning strategies both face to face and online.

Use of e-learning platforms such as Google Classroom and others (BKSB) or the willingness to learn.

In addition, you will need to have a flexible approach, coupled with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills. You will also demonstrate the ability to engage and develop adult learners, and role model the attributes that we develop within our learners.
