Financial Controller

The Role:

You'll manage the full spectrum of financial activity, from bookkeeping and reporting to payroll and compliance. You'll be the financial right hand to the leadership team—owning everything from VAT submissions to cash flow forecasting across multiple entities. This is a hands-on, high-impact role that blends strategic thinking with operational execution.

Key Responsibilities:

Payroll & HR Finance

  • Manage monthly payroll across multiple staff categories, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
  • Coordinate with external payroll providers and manage staff records, pension enrolments, and commissions.
  • Maintain accurate holiday and HR-related financial data.

Bookkeeping & Reporting

  • Maintain and reconcile accounting records in Xero for all entities.
  • Prepare monthly and annual accounts, P&L statements, balance sheets, and financial reports.
  • Support external accountants with year-end preparation.

Cash Flow & Budgeting

  • Develop weekly and monthly cash flow forecasts.
  • Create and manage payment plans aligned with budgets and forecasts.
  • Reconcile payments from customers, clients, and partners.

Revenue Tracking & Reconciliation

  • Monitor daily and monthly reports from CRM and customer systems.
  • Track new signups, payment statuses, and debtor collections.
  • Investigate and resolve revenue discrepancies proactively.

Compliance & Regulatory

  • Prepare and submit annual filings and VAT returns.
  • Ensure all financial operations are in line with HMRC and other relevant UK regulations.
  • Handle VAT registration and financial setup for new group entities.

Professional Requirements:

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field
  • ACCA, CIMA, or ACA preferred
  • 3-5 years' experience in a similar role
  • Strong knowledge of UK GAAP, VAT, PAYE & pension schemes
  • Advanced proficiency in Xero and Microsoft Excel
