About the Role

The Street Works Compliance Team are part of Surrey Highways and sits within the wider Street Works Team. Our team's main purpose is to ensure that road works are set out safely for pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and the operatives that work are working there. The team assist where residents are experiencing problems or there are high levels of congestion to resolve the issues. We will also assess the reinstatements carried out at street works and inspect them against the engineering specifications set out by the Department for Transport.

As a Street Works Officer, your day will begin by interrogating software systems to gain a complete picture of the inspections that are available and required to be completed that day. In particular, identifying those works which are a high priority, on our most traffic sensitive routes, and most likely to cause disruption. You will also read the enquiries from our residents and aim to create an efficient inspection route that will include any areas requiring a site visit, relating to those enquiries.

The bulk of the day will be spent in your geographical area of cover and will include carrying out those prioritised inspections and investigating the resident's enquiries. Every day varies and will present its own challenges and rewards as you work with others to resolve traffic management problems, improve their works layout for safety or to reduce congestion. At the end of your working day you will tidy up any 'loose ends' of administration and prepare for your next day.
