Salary: £32,000 - £44,000 per annum based upon experience plus discretionary bonus and comprehensive benefits

Role Purpose:

The acceleration of digitisation and the growing capabilities of digital technologies has meant that regulation of the technology sector and online communications has grown.

In this exciting role, you will work with some of the world's leading technology businesses across key digital regulation files such as online safety, online communications and the role of the tech sector in helping prevent economic crime. You will also lead techUK's work setting out technology's positive contribution to a strong society.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist techUK's Head of Digital Regulation in developing techUK's policy positions around online safety, online communications (including the role of synthetic media and deepfakes), economic crime and how technology helps build stronger societies. This will include the impact of technological change, for example from the growing capabilities of AI technology
  • The role will require you to work across the techUK Policy and Public Affairs teams to ensure a coherent message to Government and that evolving regulatory policy is effectively tracked and responded to
  • Build and hold relationships with the UK's key digital regulators, the ICO, CMA, OFCOM and FCA as well as with the wider network of UK regulators
  • Build and hold relationships within and outside Government, including with DSIT, HM Treasury, DBT, the Conservative Party and other stakeholders such as influential Members of Parliament and other industry bodies and partners such as DIGITAL EUROPE
  • Work with the techUK Public Affairs team to ensure the public affairs goals of techUK are met
  • Design research plans and lead our thinking on policy issues relating to online communications and technology's role in society
  • Be able to situate techUK's asks within the wider UK political and policy context
  • Ensure effective use of web and social media to communicate techUK's positions and points of view
  • Lead techUK member groups and coordinate our members activities to achieve techUK's policy goals

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise:

Core Competencies:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and good at building relationships
  • Highly effective communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex information effectively to a range of audiences
  • A self-motivated individual who is comfortable coming up with ideas and seeing these through into deliverable projects
  • A team player who is comfortable and able to work with relevant teams across techUK
  • Has a can-do approach and comfortable working in a high pressure, fast paced environment with competing demands
  • Able to articulate, explain and sell the benefits of techUK to a range of audiences from government to potential new members

Essential Knowledge and Experience:

  • Proven experience building relationships with stakeholders, developing workplans and delivering to deadlines
  • Intellectually curious and able to demonstrate experiences of having to learn quickly and distil complex issues into clear concise information
  • A strong understanding and interest in the UK policy and political landscape
  • Strong policy knowledge and be able to quickly get up to speed on new issues
  • A solid grasp of the workings of Whitehall and UK Parliamentary process
  • A good working knowledge of the political environment in which new regulatory policy is being enacted

Desired knowledge and experience:

  • Track record of using events, communications tools and research to effect policy change
  • An understanding of the role of trade bodies
  • Comfortable working with complex regulatory areas, sensitive subjects and controversial issues
  • Experience presenting and speaking in public forums

Additional Information:

This is a full time role based out of techUK's London offices, however techUK operates a flexible working policy.

This role profile is a guide to the work that is required but does not form part of any contract of employment and may change from time to time to reflect changing circumstances.

The successful candidate must have permission to work in the UK prior to the commencement of employment.
