Join our Finance team as an Assistant Financial Planning & Analysis Accountant and contribute to our vision of creating a prosperous, well-connected, and inclusive West Yorkshire. This role is crucial in providing strong financial governance and facilitating the effective delivery of our aims, ensuring compliance with financial standards and practices.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Proactively participate in the production and delivery of statutory accounts, annual revenue, and capital budgets, and associated in-year monitoring, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Provide advice, support, challenge, and guidance to Directorate Management teams, ensuring financial controls and procedures are adhered to.
  • Maintain a robust monthly financial control process to monitor service delivery, investigating and resolving all problems.
  • Liaise with Finance colleagues and colleagues across the business to ensure timely delivery of corporate and financial outcomes.
  • Prepare comprehensive financial guidance notes and ensure operations align with these guidelines.
  • Support training and development initiatives for colleagues in finance and across the wider business.
  • Respond to ad hoc requests for reports and information, including Freedom of Information requests, ensuring timely and high-quality outputs.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Educated to A level or equivalent relevant education/experience.
  • Practical experience in a similar role, preferably within a Local Authority environment.
  • Part-qualified CIMA / CCAB (CIPFA, ACCA, ICAEW, ICAS, ICAI) preferred.
  • Strong understanding and experience of financial controls.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
