Project Manager - 1 Year Contract

Job Purpose:

We seek a highly skilled Project Manager to oversee a significant £20m project, ensuring it is completed on time, to the highest quality standards, and within budget. This role involves managing the project from initial product architecture creation to product installation at customer premises. The product will be sourced globally and installed across various UK locations. This one-year contract role is designed to establish the project and embed standard work processes across the business, allowing existing staff to manage the project's remaining 2 to 5 years.

Organisation & Relationships:

  • Reports directly to the Operations Director.
  • Maintains cross-functional relationships with line management and operational teams.
  • Holds a dotted line to the CEO, who is accountable to the customer for project success.
  • Interfaces with third-party manufacturers, suppliers, partners, logistics companies, and customers.
  • Oversees a bespoke product that requires various modifications in the early stages.
  • Focuses on cost reduction over 4- to 7-year, requiring collaboration with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Production, and Supply Chain teams.

Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Take end-to-end project ownership, ensuring timely and effective communication with all stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary contact for customer communication.
  • Manage and report on cost control, timelines, milestones, and risk registers.
  • Proactively manage the project by assessing and mitigating risks while capitalising on opportunities.
  • Ensure continuous communication across functions and maintain up-to-date project information.
  • Appoint suitable deputies to make decisions and take actions as needed.
  • Report directly to Senior Leadership or the Board as required.
  • Drive best practices and continuous improvement, targeting a minimum 3% year-on-year cost reduction.
  • Manage resource allocation fairly and effectively.
  • Oversee change management and conduct Root Cause Analysis as needed, ensuring corrective and preventative actions are implemented.
  • Define and achieve project KPIs.
  • Be an integral part of the Operations Management Team.
  • Undertake additional duties as required.

  • Proven experience managing a £20m project over 4 years.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, especially Microsoft Project, and familiarity with ERP systems.
  • Strong communication and conflict resolution skills, effectively engaging with all levels of the business and customers.
  • High accountability, with a precise understanding of project status and the ability to provide accurate updates.
  • Proactive adaptability to changing business needs, with practical collaborative and leadership skills.
  • Strong business acumen, able to promote the project's value, initiate process improvements, and maintain stakeholder confidence.
