We are looking for a Head of Legal Practice with experience in Estate administration & Probates to join our clients existing team. This role is working on a hybrid basis out of our clients Exeter or Birmingham office.

Role Summary

The role of the Head of Legal Practice - Estates administration & Probates is to be responsible for governance, risk, overall compliance and legal expertise enabling the business the business to deliver financial, operational and service objective. Oversight of all case management, processes and procedures to ensure performance indicators are achieved within process, regulatory and approved benchmarks and growth opportunities secured.

The appointee will act as a role model showcasing required behaviours, demonstrating leadership, people management skills, and exhibiting the Group values and performance management capabilities. It will be an organised, focussed individual, with experience in Estates and Probate administration industry.

What you'll be doing as Head of Legal Practice:

  • Ensure the operation remains compliant with all best practice standards and reporting requirements, together with all relevant regulatory and statutory requirements, where appropriate implementing actions to always protect the business. Identifying and escalating risks, dependencies and issues that could threaten delivery.
  • Conduct initial reviews and periodic ongoing assessments of all cases ensuring that risks highlighted and managed with the correct governance has been adhered to.
  • Maintain your personal professional competence by being fully conversant with all relevant legislation. Responsible for upholding ICAEW licence, ensuring that the business complies with applicable regulations and stays up-to-date on regulatory and other compliance changes. Formally obtaining probate in respect of cases.
  • Oversight of the business complaints-handling procedures and sign off correspondence.
  • Ensure that effective and appropriate policies and procedures which meet legal requirements, best practice and organisational objectives.
  • Manage succession planning and supervising business continuity planning to ensure in the event of an adverse situation the continuity of service provision.
  • To act as a key client contact, providing technical expertise via monthly governance, through the provision of expert knowledge to influence operational outcomes and ensuring service levels are in place and adhered to.
  • Assisting in case workload in managing and completing cases that warrant scrutiny and experienced oversight.
  • Participate actively in the financial performance and budget, identify opportunities for revenue growth and cost optimisation.
  • Provide supervision of CASS to administer weekly attestation of compliancy.

What we'd like to see from your application:

  • STEP TEP (Trust and Estate practitioner) qualification is a must.
  • Comprehensive understanding and ability in the area of Wills and Probate.
  • Detailed knowledge of inheritance tax rules, accounting, and procedures, as well as Income and Capital Gains Tax compliance in estate administration.
  • Proven experience in administering complex and high-value estates.
  • Client service focused
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to identify root cause(s) and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Risk management experience and data protection knowledge and focus on controls.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and delegate.
