About the Team

The SEND Team sits within a wider Education & Inclusion Service and currently manages the statutory functions associated with Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments, maintaining Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) and making arrangements for children and young people with an EHCP to access suitable educational placements in schools, colleges and other provision.

We also strive to collaborate effectively with stakeholders, such as schools and colleges. This role will involve visits to external locations, giving an opportunity to develop effective working relationships with key staff, providers and other professionals.

About the Role

This is a leadership role, working alongside the Area SEND Manager and other Senior Case Managers to ensure the delivery of a consistent, high-quality SEND service across the North-West area of Surrey.

As a Senior Case Manager, you will manage a team of SEND Case Officers to ensure we deliver our statutory SEN services (as set out in DFE guidance and Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) 2014 legislation) effectively, that service delivery meets performance targets and that resources are used efficiently and effectively. This role has a focus and specialism in casework associated with young people aged between 14 and 25 and will hold responsibility for overseeing complex casework.

Using your experience of collaboration, you will work with colleagues, Service Managers, schools (including those in other authorities and the independent and non-maintained sector) and external agencies to ensure the special educational needs of children with EHCPs are appropriately met.

Bringing a strong customer focus to the team, you will ensure that parents, carers, children and young people are made fully aware of their rights to contribute to the SEND processes and that they are advised of any appeal or dispute resolution processes available to them.

Shortlisting Criteria

To be considered for shortlisting for this role, your application will clearly evidence the following:

  • Detailed knowledge of SEN legislative framework and policy, with experience of SEN casework and statutory processes
  • Highly developed presentation skills, particularly in relation to report and letter writing with ability to summarise complex information
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to develop effective and positive collaborative working relationships
  • Effective use of ICT, including data management
  • Proven track record of managing a range of responsibilities and co-ordinating service delivery in a multi-disciplinary environment, with excellent advocacy, time management and organisational skills

The job advert closes at 23:59 on 5th September 2024, with interviews planned for 13th and 16th September 2024.

An enhanced DBS 'Disclosure and Barring Service' check for regulated activity (formerly known as CRB) and the Children's and Adults' Barred List checks will be required for this role.
