Multi Skilled Trade Operative – The Role:

We have two roles available in our Building Services Team: a Senior Multi Skilled Trade Operative and a Multi Skilled Trade Operative.

Appointment to the Senior role (at the higher grade F) is based on a skills audit, where you will be assessed on your level of skill and competency.

The successful candidates will work with the Repairs Supervisors and Logistics Co-ordinator to provide an effective and efficient multi trade repair, maintenance and replacement service for all of our customers.

Multi Skilled Trade Operative – Key Responsibilities:

On a day-to-day basis, selected candidates will be responsible for multi-trade repairs and maintenance in both occupied and unoccupied homes, including groundworks, bricklaying, roofing, carpentry, and basic plumbing (excluding gas).

  • Performing a range of repairs (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, appliance reconnections)
  • Supervising and training junior staff and apprentices when required
  • Managing vehicles, tools, and materials
  • Collaborating with other trades for efficient repairs
  • Ensuring safety, safeguarding, and tailored service for vulnerable tenants
  • Continuously improving service and addressing skill gaps through training
  • Efficiency, quality workmanship, and teamwork are critical to the role
  • Occasional requirement to work at different locations and outside normal hours

Multi Skilled Trade Operative – You:

  • Proven experience in multi-trade work
  • Awareness of Asbestos Regulations and manual handling experience
  • Competent in driving van-sized vehicles in urban areas
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Regulations
  • Strong team player with the ability to work well with the Repairs Manager and team
  • Proficient in using a PDA for job details, ordering materials, and work confirmations
  • Customer care-focused with effective communication skills
  • Problem-solving ability and a logical approach to tasks
  • Mature and adaptable to a diverse range of responsibilities
  • Desirable: Experience in social housing environment and aware of the risk of Sharps
