The Opportunity

Entrepreneur-led group based near Leeds, West Yorkshire have an opportunity for a recently qualified accountant to join them as Financial Controller.

It's a great step for an ambitious finance professional looking for development, variety and a chance to make a real difference.

You'll be reporting directly to the Finance Director of an acquisitive and expanding group (£30m-£40m turnover bracket). It's a business in the 'sweet spot' for many newly qualified accountants - large enough to give you complex variety and exposure but small enough for you to make a real difference and feel visible, integral and valued.

You'll be working closely with the senior managers across the whole business and have exposure to the Directors / shareholders on a daily basis.

The remit includes managing a small team in finance - reviewing and finalising management accounts / board packs, budgeting, forecasting and cash management, MI and project-led analysis, KPI reporting, year end accounting, system improvement --- the full train set and hugely valuable exposure for anyone on the journey to FD level.

It's a vibrant, down to earth but professional culture, a setting where finance is integrated into the business and there's loads of contact with colleagues within sales, marketing, ops and all commercial areas of the group.

You'll enjoy projects alongside the BAU - using your grey matter to solve problems such as pricing and promotion reviews, margin analysis, system developments, redesigning MI, performance tracking by product / project / customer...

3 years here will see you brilliantly positioned for your first FD role.

Required;

  • Ideally previous experience at Finance Manager / FC level within a reasonably complex growth business.
  • Excellent analytical & reporting skills and previous experience of management accounting, budgeting, variance reporting and cashflows.
  • Ability to coach others and bring out the best in more junior colleagues.
  • Ability to thrive in a growing smaller business.
  • Great interpersonal skills and genuine appetite to work in a team setting.
  • Enthusiasm, proactivity and natural drive to make an impact.

This is a modern SME with high growth plans. You need to be comfortable adapting to change, learning new tasks and solving new problems - individually and within a team
