Team / division overview

The Investment Risk team is responsible for the independent risk oversight of investment risk of DWS fiduciary portfolios. They design and execute the risk programs to control and manage market, liquidity and counterparty risk, which includes the regular monitoring analysis and reporting of risk to portfolio management and the DWS board. The team is responsible for the portfolio risk identification and measurement process including the adequate usage of risk models, while analysing upcoming regulations in order to adapt its investment risk program to ensure regulatory compliance.

Role Details

As a Senior Investment Risk Manager

  • Act as a liaison between the Risk Management Function and the Investment and Product Divisions for Fixed Income investment strategies including development of new processes and procedures to ensure adequate risk governance on a global level
  • Identify trends in risk-taking across Fixed Income strategies and actively contribute to oversight of related portfolios and be a key resource for insights on portfolio management teams
  • Analyse portfolio exposures and related risk attributions to identify potential sources of forward-looking risks and assess investment risk profile appropriateness
  • Conduct risk-related research on best in class, differentiated and innovative perspectives on the quantitative aspects of portfolios and their returns.
  • Contribute to the selection process of risk indicators utilized for independent risk assessment
  • Develop dashboards to be discussed in portfolio performance & risk review meetings with the Investment and Product Divisions
  • Implement the strategic vision of the Risk Management function and foster a culture of risk awareness by promoting risk techniques to inform portfolio construction and risk management processes
  • Act as a coach and mentor for the analysts on the team, helping to define their goals and identify development opportunities

We are looking for

  • Extensive Financial Risk management experience with strong knowledge of institutional asset management and front-office activities including Portfolio Management, Research and Trading
  • Excellent experience and understanding of Fixed Income strategies with knowledge of both Investment Grade Credit and High Yield Bond markets
  • Solid understadning with factor investing strategies with a focus on Fixed Income and a deep understanding of portfolio construction
  • Strong quantitative skills utilising programming tools such as Python, MATLAB or R
  • Good understanding of valuation methods, capital markets, portfolio theory and risk management
  • Ability to recognize broad investment trends, determine the risk implications beyond the individual portfolio level, and communicate the resulting risks across our various investment platforms
  • Educated to post-graduate degree level in a quantitative field such physics, mathematics, statistics, economics or engineering, or with relevant industry experience / professional qualification

DWS' Hybrid Working model in the UK is designed to find the right balance between in-person collaboration and engagement in the office, which is core to our working culture, and working from home.
