Study Assistant

Are you looking for a role where you can make a difference?!

Providing one to one in class support to a student at University, in order to assist them with their studies. This will involve helping and encouraging them during classes and lectures to ensure that they are able to concentrate and stay on task. You will also need to act as a prompt and aid, to help the student with understanding and breaking down information provided during lessons. Outside of class time you may support the student with accessing resources, breaking down tasks and being present during any academic meetings.

This student is based at the University of Hertfordshire, and they are studying on a creative/animation based course, therefore a creative background or interest in the arts is desirable.

They require support for up to 30 hours per week starting as soon as possible. Their student scheduled class times are as follows and you will also be needed outside of these times to provide additional out of class support. (approx 10am-5pm on each scheduled day)

Monday: 2pm-5pm

Wednesdays: 10am-1pm, 2pm-5pm

Thursdays: 2pm-5pm

Friday: 10am-1pm

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and reassurance for students adapting to the academic demands of higher education
  • Helping a student manage their anxiety levels
  • To help the student maintain their motivation and concentration
  • To assist students with transition to university by helping them to understand the routine of university life
  • To support the student with organisation, time and diary management
  • Ensuring the student is aware of upcoming deadlines or exams
  • Support with building independence and helping encourage communication with peers and staff
  • To support with finding the correct resources for work or assignments
  • To liaise with Randstad (and the Disability support team, where appropriate) regarding student progress or on any matters regarding a student's support needs or well-being.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold a degree, equivalent qualification or be working towards a degree (in final years)
  • Disability support training (provided by Randstad E-Learning)

Experience:

  • Knowledge of Higher Education
  • Knowledge of the barriers that disabled people may experience in higher education
  • Understanding of autism and the challenges those with autism face
  • An enhanced level of skill and experience of working with disabled people
