In-house Claims & Insurance Executive - Top UK Rail Freight Company

Posted by Aston Charles Ltd.

This exciting In-house Claims & Insurance Executive position has arisen with one of the UK's top 3 Rail Freight companies. A highly profitable business, with a turnover in excess of £300m, its diverse range of activities provide a highly stimulating and challenging environment for an experienced insurance professional.

Our client provides award-winning intermodal transport, energy generation movement, vital infrastructure services, terminal management, and has capabilities to handle construction and waste materials.

One of the major selling points of this opportunity is the potential progression that comes along with it. Being very much a growing business (evidenced by the fact that it has expanded from 1 employee to 1,500 in 20 years!), there is genuine scope for this position to progress into a Head of Insurance role, in line with future succession plans.

Initially supporting the current Head of Insurance, you will play an instrumental role in helping to oversee the claims within the group. Working in conjunction with various stakeholders, including in-house and external lawyers, brokers and insurers, you will help to bring claims to a satisfactory conclusion, whilst proactively working to prevent future losses. You will be dealing with a wide range of claims, including but not be limited to, Employer's and Public Liability, Goods in Transit, Property Damage and Motor, and given the severe damage that train derailments can cause, you will have exposure to some major, complex losses.

In addition to overseeing claims, you will assist the Head of Insurance with the renewal, ongoing management and monitoring of the multi-million-pound insurance programme. This will include liaising with brokers and insurers, compiling necessary information for renewals and claims, and producing regular reports and MI. Previous experience of managing an insurance programme is not essential, as extensive training will be provided.

First and foremost, we are looking for someone from a commercial claims background, who has a good understanding of a broad range of insurance classes. Just as importantly, you must be keen to learn the nuances of a Rail Freight company and its associated insurance requirements. As you will be dealing with a wide range of stakeholders at varying levels of seniority, it is also crucial that you have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).

Although there is scope for a little home-working, this position is predominantly office based, either from the London, Peterborough or Doncaster site. However, with the Head office, Brokers and insurers being based in London, regular attendance there will be required. In addition, you will be required to attend some site visits and surveys throughout the UK, alongside various insurance partners and group personnel.

You will enjoy working within a very friendly and supportive organisation that likes to celebrate its ongoing successes and achievements. Whilst there is no pressure to attend, regular social events are held, to which employees' families are invited, and staff are regularly commended within the in-house magazines.

You'll be rewarded with a competitive basic salary up to £50K (Negotiable depending on experience), together with an attractive range of company benefits.
