Customer Service Assistant

London Fire Brigade, one of the largest public sector organisations based in London are looking to recruit a Customer Service Assistant to join their team. The role is for an initial 3-month with a view to extend if all goes well. The role is full time, Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week with hybrid work. The office will be based at the London Fire Brigade HQ, walking distance from London Bridge and Southwark Station.

Pay rate: £16.36 per hour (PAYE) or £20.65 per hour (Umbrella)

Job Purpose:

To provide a range of administrative duties. To ensure systems both manual and computerised are maintained and to deal with staff at all levels courteously and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To plan and organise work to ensure that both routine and unexpected tasks are completed promptly. Report anticipated difficulties in meeting deadlines to the appropriate person.
  • To answer the telephone politely and efficiently and help callers with their requirements ensuring high levels of customer care. To provide a service whereby all customer enquiries are logged and dealt with according to agreed standard and cleared on completion.
  • To receive and assist visitors, both internal and external, identifying their requirements and helping them to achieve the purpose of their visit.
  • To answer letters, e-mails and other communications promptly and efficiently, passing
  • on information as necessary.
  • To resolve all calls to agreed standard ensuring that the line manager is made aware of any difficulties which may lead to such targets not being achieved.
  • To produce standard correspondence on a range of issues and ensure the accuracy of the information to individuals prior to dispatch.
  • To organise and clerk meetings, prepare agendas and minutes for distribution and attend meetings as required, taking accurate notes and undertaking any follow up action as required.
  • To assist in administration of the Brigade's Absence control system.
  • To be responsible for the ordering and receipt of required items using the Brigade's Purchase Order Management System (POMS).
  • To liaise with other Departments/Sections on service provision issues of Brigade wide significance, including the issuing of new security passes and altering access rights, where necessary.
  • Always operate computerised card access security systems in Brigade premises effectively and efficiently including the issuing of new photo cards and updating access level data as required.
