The Royal National Lifeboat Institution is a charity that provides, on call, a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service and a seasonal lifeguard service. Our lifeboat crews and lifeguards need a dedicated, professional, and talented team behind them.
Whatever the weather, boats and equipment need to be manufactured, maintained and repaired to the very highest technical standards and our team on the Isle of Wight play a vital role in this. We are looking for a Technician Mechanic to join our Inshore Lifeboat Centre at Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

Your Role
As a Technician Mechanic, you will be tasked with focus on the following areas:
- RNLI launch and recovery vehicles and trailers
- Marine petrol/diesel outboard and inboard engines, fuel systems and associated control systems
- Working with systems such as hydraulics, cooling, fuel and control mechanisms
- Fabrication, repairs and welding (preferable)
- Able to adapt to new equipment and machinery as new projects arise
- Reading and working with drawings, meeting production deadlines and working to a high standard
- Basic knowledge of DC electrical systems
About You
You'll be practical, adaptable and have good attention to detail. To be considered as the Technician Mechanic, you will need:
- Sound technical knowledge and to be competent in fault diagnosis
- You will have successfully completed a time served apprenticeship or equivalent with the relevant City and Guilds or NVQ3 qualification
- Ideally, you should also have experience in Marine Fitting installations boat construction within a boatyard/factory environment and have the ability to learn new skills
- This role would also suit someone with transferable experience from other industries i.e. automotive trade
