Highways Network and Traffic Manager

Salary: £56,713 to £59,946 per annum.

Location: Your office base will be Chichester and a typical week will combine homeworking with attendance at the office or site visits. This is led by the needs of the service.

Contract: Permanent.

Working pattern: Full-time, 37 hours per week. Flexible working options available, to be agreed with your line manager.

Employer Pension Contribution: 19.70% this alters per annum on the 1st April each year.

Annual leave: 30 days holiday + Bank holidays = 38 days.

As the Highways Network and Traffic Manager you are accountable for efficient and effective management of transport networks. You will coordinate all works and events promoters on the county's traffic network through strategy development, processes, and effective management.

You will manage teams who will enforce statutory street works responsibilities with both internal and external stakeholders and operate the Traffic Information Control Centre.

You will play a key role in delivering daily services and shaping the future direction of the team. Your experience in network management will be essential in guiding the team towards success.

You'll lead a large team and resources to manage operational services, coordinate closely with other teams, performance manage staff, develop future service provision, build relationships, and improve services through collaboration.

What we need from you:

  • Strong problem-solving ability with broad service impact. Analytical judgement for tackling technical, professional, resource, or people-related challenges. Willingness to challenge norms and find innovative solutions.
  • Effective research, evaluation and interpretation skills to derive conclusions and plan over the short to medium term.
  • Communication skills.
  • Effective people management and performance management skills.
  • Project management skills.
  • Relevant chartered status of a professional body or equivalent high-level experience of involved practices.
  • Expert specialist, theoretical knowledge relating to the service specialism.
  • Detailed practical knowledge of complex theories including relevant technical knowledge to formulate and develop policies, processes and guidance.
  • Sound practical and theoretical knowledge of the political environment of local government and partner organisations.
  • Expert relevant experience in specialist area, including sound relevant operational experience.
  • Experience of delivering or co-ordinating a quality service to others.
  • Experience of managing / leading staff.
  • Experience of managing a budget and contributing to financially related decisions on high level spending.
