ROLE- Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

LOCATION- West Berkshire

TERM- Permanent

SALARY- £45,000 - £80,000, dependent on experience

My client is a specialist manufacturer within the Oil & Gas, Subsea and Renewable Energy industries.. They are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, with strong full lifecycle design experience, to join their team in West Berkshire on a permanent basis.

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:

  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar Design Engineering position in a manufacturing environment
  • BSc / BEng / HND / HNC qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design or similar
  • Experienced with full lifecycle design
  • Ideally have some experience in a process industry, Oil & Gas, Aerospace, HVAC or similar
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and instrumentation
  • A background working with complex assembly and designing equipment with lots of subcomponents would be beneficial
  • Excellent analytical skills, with knowledge of hand calculations, FEA, ANSYS, stress analysis, particle fluid simulation etc.
  • Excellent knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials – plastic injection moulding, sheet metal, castings, etc.
  • Excellent mathematical ability and knowledge of mechanisms
  • Be proficient using 3D CAD software such as Inventor, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.
  • Good theoretical mechanical engineering knowledge of core principles and tight tolerances
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Proficient using MS Office
  • Excellent organisational skills and time management skills
  • Have the ability to work well alone as well as part of a small multi-disciplinary team

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer role will involve:

  • Being involved throughout the full product lifecycle, from concept to production
  • Designing and developing new products and systems
  • Speaking to clients and managing relationships
  • Being involved in the workshop, installation and project management too
  • FEA, testing, verification, validation and simulation
  • Using CAD for concept design and producing technical drawings
  • Designing varied and bespoke products and subcomponents
  • Liaising with manufacturing providers
  • Being involved in final assembly of products
  • Creating the required documentation for design as well as project reports / plans
  • Updating 3D models and drawings
  • Inputting parts into the MRP system creating BOMs
  • Checking drawings for sign off
  • Working in a small, multi-disciplinary team on varied projects
