Job Title: Waste Manager

Department: Facilities Management

Location: Solihull

Contract: Salaried, permanent.

Hours: 37.5

Salary: £40,150 plus car allowance, 10% bonus and other benefits

Role Purpose

The overall purpose of this position is to oversee, develop, and maintain the waste contract for the site in Solihull. The Waste Manager will be responsible for all aspects of the waste operations, leading the on-site team and ensuring compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and legislation

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage the Solihull site Waste Team to effectively deliver the operational requirements of the Waste contract
  • Maintain legal compliance with Health and Safety legislation, ensuring that all operations are undertaken in a safe manner, with specific focus on the use and availability of: Risk assessments and method statements, Current best practice, Visual aids.
  • Ensure & maintain legal compliance with all applicable waste legislation
  • Ensure compliance with the Company's waste management procedures
  • Manage the Waste and Recycling One (WR1) and Smart World software
  • Oversee all aspects of the site waste operations, including a waste recycling centre, drum compound, and satellite waste areas
  • Carry out management tasks including: Resource planning and recruitment. Arranging transportation and disposal of waste from the site. Planning and maintaining records for waste equipment repairs and maintenance. Producing and implementing control procedures, risk assessments, and waste management. plans as required. Managing and maintaining segregation/bin audits. Liaising with outside waste suppliers and building relationships. Delivering on-site training on compliance topics such as Duty of care and waste segregation
  • Support with financial budgets and monthly reports
  • Authorise purchase orders and invoices and resolve queries
  • Work with the central waste team to conduct/maintain/manage duty of care audits
  • Ensure that contract delivery meets customer expectations and goals in areas such as: Zero Waste, Circular Economy, Waste Minimisation/optimisation, Zero Landfill
  • Attend, and on occasions lead, customer environmental and waste focus meetings
  • Attend site environmental audits
  • Review waste non-conformances and resolve customer queries
  • Comply with any reasonable requests made by the Account Manager, Director, or the Company
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Company Human Resources processes, ensuring they are carried out correctly, and seeking support from, or providing support to, the HR department where appropriate
  • Perform additional duties as reasonably requested by your line manager

Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • HNC or higher equivalent in waste, environment, or related discipline
  • Experience of working within the waste industry or manufacturing
  • Understanding of waste legislation and compliance
  • IOSH or equivalent qualification

Desirable

  • Degree or higher equivalent in waste, environment, or related discipline
  • Certificate of Technical Competence
  • Understanding of SAP systems
