Junior Project Assistant

Posted by Gleeson Recruitment Group.

I am currently working with a brilliant organisation based in Birmingham who are looking for a Junior Project Assistant to join their team on a fixed-term contract, with an immediate start available.

This is the perfect role for someone who's looking for a first step into the world of project support - you don't need to have worked in project management before, but you'll need some previous experience in an admin or coordination role, and a real eagerness to learn. The managers are incredibly supportive and keen to bring someone in who they can train and develop over time.

You'll be working alongside two lovely, experienced Project Managers, supporting them across a variety of exciting events and business activities. These are high-profile, fast-moving projects, and you'll be right in the middle of the action - helping to keep everything organised and on track.

The role is being offered as a fixed-term contract, and we're ideally looking for someone to start as soon as possible. That said, the team are growing, and this role has come about due to increased workload - so there's definitely the potential for extension or even something permanent for the right person.

The Role Will Involve:

  • Helping the Project Managers stay organised by scheduling meetings, updating to-do lists, and keeping plans on track
  • Taking notes during meetings and making sure everyone knows what they need to do afterwards
  • Keeping spreadsheets and documents up to date with the latest information
  • Supporting with the creation of documents, slides, and reports for ongoing projects
  • Helping manage and keep track of contact lists and event attendees
  • Communicating with other teams across the business to chase updates and confirm plans
  • General admin and coordination tasks to help keep things running smoothly
  • Getting stuck into any ad-hoc support the team needs, especially during busy periods

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Some previous experience working in an administration, office support, or coordination role
  • A genuine interest in learning more about how projects run behind the scenes
  • A confident, proactive attitude - someone who's happy to speak up, ask questions, and get involved
  • A calm and organised nature - you'll be juggling different tasks, so staying on top of things is key
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills - you'll be speaking with lots of different people
  • A willingness to push back professionally when needed and communicate clearly about what's realistic to deliver
  • Good Excel skills - confident using spreadsheets and updating data
  • Someone eager to learn, take feedback, and grow with the team

In Return:

  • A fantastic first step into project support
  • Lovely, supportive managers who will help you learn and develop
  • A flexible, hybrid working setup (usually 1-2 days per week in the Birmingham office)
  • Flexible working hours with a genuine give and take approach - some days will be busy, others quieter
  • Real potential for the role to extend or even become permanent as the business continues to grow
  • A fun, friendly, fast-paced environment where no two days are the same

Summary:
This is the ideal opportunity for someone with a background in admin or office support who's ready to take the next step into something more fast-paced and exciting. If you're organised, curious, and love the idea of working on big projects while learning from experienced professionals - this could be the perfect way to kick-start your career!
