SEN TA

An ambitious and disciplined secondary school in Hackney are looking for a SEN TA to start in September 2024. As a SEN TA you would be working within the SEN department, working closely with specialist teachers, learning mentors, a
speech and language therapist and other Teaching Assistants. As a SEN TA you will be supporting secondary aged children with a variety of Special Educational Needs (SEN). As a SEN TA, a desire to work in education is key. Being organised, proactive and a strong communicator is also highly desireable for a SEN TA.

Responsibilities:

  • Work under the direction of the class teacher, SENCO or a member of the management team to carry out work andtasks set by the teacher.
  • Work with individual pupils or small groups of pupils as directed by the teacher and under the teacher's guidance
  • Setting appropriate learning and behaviour expectations of students and supporting students to achieve these.
  • Work with other members of staff to identify and respond appropriately to student's individual needs
  • Assist in meeting physical, development or medical needs identified in an approved care plan
  • Supervise students during breaks and/or lunchtimes and before the start of the academic day
  • Follow all health and safety, child protection, behaviour management, inclusion, equality and data protection policies.
  • Ensure the health and safety of all pupils in the classroom and throughout the school, follwing school policies.
  • Have a flexible and proactive approach to ensuring the needs of the children are being met, with the support of theteam
  • Liase closely with staff to ensure support for students remains consistent and in the best interests of the young person.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children/young people with SEN or SEMH
  • Experience working in an educational enviornment
  • Experience working 1-1 with people with SEN
  • An enhanced DBS on the OUS (or be willing to get one), plus two professional references
  • An understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with disabilties
  • GCSE Grade 5 (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths.
  • A higher qualification, especially in child development/Special Education Needs or similar is desirable but not essential.
  • A genuine interest in education, and a desire to support vulnerable young people within an educational context.
  • A proactive approach and strong organisational skills
  • Strong communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team
  • The ability to form strong working relationships with other members of staff and pupils
  • A good understanding of saefguarding and child welfare polciites, and commitment to uphold both
