About the Role

We now have an opportunity for a Health Physics Technician. You will be working in the Diamond Active Materials Laboratory. This role will involve ensuring compliance with Diamond's Environmental permit and related radiation protection regulations, reviewing experimental proposals, and providing Health Physics support to scientists, visitors, and users within the Laboratory.

The primary focus of this role will be to provide support for the new Active Materials Lab (AML), although the role will also contribute to the current support for the Synchrotron and Beamlines.

Further responsibilities will include:

  • Radiation Protection Supervisor for Active Materials Building (Training Provided).
  • Review of user risk assessments.
  • Contamination checks and log in/out of user samples.
  • Maintain survey and waste records.
  • Regular Radiation surveys of laboratory.
  • Monitoring compliance by all users of safety procedures and practices throughout the laboratories in adherence with relevant company and statutory H&S and other guidelines.

Full training in radiation safety will be provided.

Some travel may be required, usually within the UK usually for training purposes.

About You

You should have A-Level Grade A-C in Science, Mathematics, or equivalent level qualifications. Applicants with equivalent work experience will also be considered.

You should have experience of working in a scientific or technical environment. Experience of working with radioactive material is desirable but not essential.

There is a strong emphasis on Health and Safety, so familiarity of risk assessments and legislation is desirable but not essential.

Good communication skills are required to interact with a range of colleagues and stakeholders
