Compliance Specialist - Biofuels

An international energy business is seeking a Biofuels Compliance Specialist for a high-profile, temporary position within their London team. Reporting to the Senior Manager European Biofuels, this role is crucial for delivering excellence in Biofuel Compliance, maintaining and building both internal and external relationships. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, highly disciplined, and capable of working collaboratively to ensure compliance with legal requirements.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Calculate the monthly biofuel obligation for the UK & Ireland.
  • Forecast and track the physical fossil and biofuel content of all product movements throughout the supply chain using oil accounting systems.
  • Validate and reconcile obligated sales, balancing UK and Irish official duty returns.
  • Calculate supply partner biofuel balances and agree these with counterparties.
  • Identify discrepancies in data and promptly work with internal or external parties to resolve differences.
  • Maintain and follow procedures required to support trading of physical biofuel, including the issuing of Carbon and Sustainability data.
  • Review all documentation to ensure compliance with national and ISCC voluntary scheme rules, including country of origin, greenhouse gas saving, and feedstock type.
  • Maintain a robust mass balance for each biodiesel and ethanol storage location, tracking all product stock movements.
  • Enter claims in external web-based Government systems and work with appointed verifiers for sign-off prior to submission.
  • Support the implementation and integration of the EU Commission's Union Database.
  • Coordinate certificate transfers, purchases, and sales directly with supply counterparties.
  • Liaise with UK & Ireland Biofuel Agencies and the company verifier to obtain approval for the addition of new biofuel types and sources.
  • Represent the business at industry and government biofuel forums.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Disciplined work approach with a focus on deadlines and following work processes.
  • Analytical skill set, given the complexity of the role with changing annual obligations and deal type construction.
  • Experience interacting with regulators is desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication abilities, including written, presentational, oral, and listening skills.
  • Confident influencer with strong organisational skills and self-motivation.
  • Excellent time management skills, able to set own agenda and tactics to achieve strategies.
  • Significant industry knowledge and commercial acumen.
  • High level of numeracy to support an analytical approach and deliver robust solutions.
  • Degree educated preferred.
  • Proficiency across all Microsoft packages.
