Environmental Health Officer (Food Safety)
Location: West Midlands
Start Date: October/November 2024
Rate: £45 per hour (umbrella, Inside IR35)
Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week
Duration: Until end of March 2025
Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Health Officer (Food Safety) to join their team on a full-time basis. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the protection of public health by ensuring food safety standards are maintained across the Local Authority.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carrying out inspections, investigations, and risk assessments of food premises within the local authority area
- Enforcing compliance with food hygiene legislation and industry best practices to protect public health
- Providing guidance and support to food business operators on food safety regulations and compliance requirements
- Investigating food safety complaints and food-borne illness outbreaks and taking necessary enforcement action when required
- Preparing detailed reports and maintaining accurate records of inspections and outcomes
Essential Requirements:
- Degree in Environmental Health or equivalent, with EHRB/CIEH Registration (or equivalent)
- Significant experience in food safety enforcement, including conducting inspections and risk assessments in food premises – Local Authority desired
- In-depth knowledge of current food safety legislation and enforcement practices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders
- Ability to work independently, manage workload efficiently, and handle complex cases
