About Us

Diamond Light Source is one of the world's most advanced scientific facilities. We're home to the UK's synchrotron light source - a giant microscope producing beams of light 10 billion times brighter than the sun. Probing the structure and composition of matter, our work drives innovation in everything from vaccines to nanotech.

The facility is utilised by visiting scientists (users) who require administrative support for their visits.

About the Role

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Science Support Coordinator (known internally as a Senior User Office Coordinator) to join our busy User Office team.

In a leading role, you will work as part of the team and be responsible for providing first line support to the scientific community, interacting directly with users and staff to coordinate their requirements to enable them to conduct their experiments effectively.

As the Senior Coordinator, you will support the User Office Manager in the planning, coordination, and organisation of the operational activities in the User Office. This includes implementing high quality user services through the management of financial operations, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders and proactively supporting any improvements to the services we provide.

About You

You will have a good academic background, educated to 'A' Level standard or equivalent, along with strong numeracy and literacy skills.

You will demonstrate:

  • Experience of working in a busy office environment within a customer facing role.
  • Experience of supervision of administrative staff.
  • Substantial Microsoft Office experience and knowledge of databases.
  • The ability to analyse and interpret data from a variety of sources.
  • A drive to seek out and resolve problems or areas for improvement and focus on enhancing the user experience and services.
  • An ability to manage a diverse workload and prioritise appropriately.
  • Good interpersonal, communication and presentational skills to interact effectively with staff and facility users at all levels.

Previous experience of working within a scientific or academic environment will be beneficial.

Staff also have access to a range of amenities on site including a nursery, cafes, a restaurant and sports and leisure facilities. A relocation allowance may also be available where applicable.

We take an active approach to ensuring equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of our activities at Diamond, with a dedicated commitment to ensuring we provide a fulfilling and enjoyable place to work, where all staff feel valued and recognised for their individual contribution.
