Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Role:

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our clients thriving team at their manufacturing base in Send, Woking. This role involves close collaboration with their sales, marketing, procurement, quality, and manufacturing departments. You will be part of a skilled team of 10 mechanical, optical, and digital engineers, focusing on the design, development, and production of innovative new products.

Responsibilities:

  • Design & Development: Create high-quality electro-mechanical products using diverse materials such as injection-moulded, extruded, cast, and machined parts, alongside optics, electronics, and mechanisms.
  • Technical Risk Management: Document design decisions and identify associated technical risks.
  • Problem Solving: Utilize creativity and initiative to address and resolve design and engineering issues.
  • Best Practices Sharing: Promote and foster good working practices within the department.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Coordinate with external consultants, suppliers, toolmakers, test facilities, and internal departments to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Project Management: Work with project management to adhere to the company's New Product Introduction (NPI) process.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Compile technical files to demonstrate compliance with CE requirements.
  • Cost Management: Collaborate with purchasing and suppliers to design cost-effective products.
  • Technology Update: Stay updated on new digital technologies and subsystems.

Requirements:

  • Educational Background: A minimum degree level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design, or a proven track record in a similar role.
  • Mechanical Engineering Expertise: Strong fundamental understanding and practical experience.
  • Electronics Knowledge: Appreciation of electronics, electrical assemblies, PCB layouts, and power requirements for effective project integration.
  • Design Experience: Experience in precision mechanical product design involving intricate assemblies and mechanisms.
  • Software Proficiency: Extensive experience with 3D CAD systems, preferably PTC Creo, though other packages are also considered.
  • Analytical Skills: Familiarity with tolerance studies, numerical design calculations, and relevant analysis tools.
  • Industry Experience: Previous experience designing consumer-type products such as mobile phones, telecom equipment, printers, copiers, white goods, medical products, etc.
  • Commutability: Reside within a manageable commuting distance to Send, Surrey.

  • Competitive Salary: Around £60,000 per annum, depending on experience and background.

  • Production Bonuses: Additional production bonuses, approximately 4% of basic salary, paid monthly and based on the value of goods invoiced from the UK factory.
