Head of Operations

Job Summary

You will be responsible for the daily operations, implementing strategies to improve efficiency, OTIF, cost savings whilst ensuring the highest level of customer satisfaction.

You will work 9 days a fortnight (every other Friday off). The Friday you work will be a 4-hour day. Start and finish times are flexible.

Responsibilities

  • KPIs - OTIF - target continual improvement with a target of 90% by 2026, Productivity - Maintain levels above 85%, Invoicing - achieving 90% of forecast as a minimum, Procurement cost savings in line with strategic Road Map, Support other initiatives in line with responsibilities as identified through the group roadmap.
  • Contracts - Managing Monthly invoicing forecast ensuring forecast is met, Working with Project Managers to ensure contracts department is adequately resourced, skilled and developed. Develop diversity across the department by implementing cross-training initiatives. Provide up to date Project information to Joint Managing Director. Drive Category 2 Damper initiative wherever possible.
  • Production Issuing - Working closely with Production /Systems Manager to ensure Effective Management of the Production Issuing Team, Production Loading planning to ensure equipment is issued to manufacture in accordance with Project requirements. Constantly seeking production efficiencies and where necessary overseeing implementation of new systems to achieve this. Develop and implement initiatives to reduce re-work costs with the goal being to eliminate re-work cost. Utilise Category 2 Damper initiative wherever possible.
  • Manufacturing - Responsibility for all Manufacturing. Working closely with UK Manufacturing Supervisor to ensure a disciplined and professional workforce is maintained. Working Closely with Joint Managing Director and Management Team on Resource planning ensuring adequate resource is available to execute existing and future projects. Identifying and implementing Manufacturing and process efficiencies. Utilising most up to date manufacturing methods to ensure the company remains competitive in the marketplace. Ensuring manufacturing assets are adequately maintained and serviced, implementing TPM. Working with Joint Managing Director to identify any gaps in manufacturing equipment. Championing and overseeing 5S auditing program in the factory.
  • Procurement - Work closely with Group Supply Chain Manager with following responsibilities: Supply Chain Management includes Procurement, Inventory Control and Logistics. To establish agreements with key suppliers to ensure the company achieve the best possible prices and service for common materials and components such as damper controls and raw material. To ensure Terms and Conditions of Purchase provide the maximum protection for the Group and are accepted and adopted by all key suppliers. To constantly investigate alternative suppliers for materials and components on a worldwide basis. To create ongoing genuine cost savings for the Group through efficient supply chain management and by identifying and implementing manufacturing and process efficiencies within the business.
  • Inventory Control - work closely with Group Supply Chain Manager to minimise inventory levels held on a Group basis but ensure that materials are available when required. This may involve centrally held stock, consignment stock or stock held at individual manufacturing locations. Manage the operations of the UK Material Control team including stores facilities, security, waste handling and the accuracy of Inventory data.
  • Logistics - Work closely with Group Supply Chain Manager to coordinate and optimise the movement of materials, components and finished goods between individual the Group locations. Oversee the packing, transport and shipping of the finished goods to customers on a worldwide and Project specific basis.
  • Facilities - Oversee all facilities management issues including coordinating with on-site security, cleaning, alarms, work with Senior HSE Co-Ordinator to ensure that Facilities and equipment are fully compliant with latest Building and workplace regulations.

Skills and experiences required

  • Ability to use MS Excel and Word to successfully run and manage projects.
  • Recognised qualification in manufacturing or engineering
  • Proven manufacturing background
  • Experience with Bystronic CNC Laser Machines desirable
  • Understand of Commercial issues related to Contracts for Manufactured equipment
  • Detailed knowledge of Stainless-Steel Fabrication techniques desirable.
  • Experience of Welding processes and procedures is desired.
  • Previous experience of procurement and logistics work on large project and product manufacture
  • Experience with modern manufacturing techniques, LEAN Manufacturing and Six Sigma, 5S, TPM is an advantage.
