Sheltered Housing Officer

We are looking for a Sheltered Housing Officer predominantly to work in Sudbury and Gt Cornard to join our team in Tenant services. To be successful, you will share our values, commitment, and motivation to make a difference for our residents, clients, and communities.

Full time, part time and job share opportunities will be considered.

About the Sheltered Housing Officer role:

You will carry out a range of housing related support duties for residents of sheltered housing schemes and support the Sheltered Housing Team Manager with ongoing development of services

Responsibilities will include:

  • welfare and wellbeing calls to residents, identifying and arranging additional support as required
  • respond in an emergency to residents during working hours and after hours where appropriate arrangements have been agreed with the Sheltered Housing Team Manager
  • maintain accurate and current digital records as required including next of kin, nearest contact, and family doctor for all residents and contact them in cases of emergency or need
  • maintain digital logbook on all matters or incidents relating to the scheme and residents
  • complete and maintain digital Support Plans and associated reviews for all residents
  • liaise with external statutory and voluntary agencies as necessary concerning residents welfare needs
  • assist with the letting of sheltered accommodation
  • welcome new residents and complete sign ups, give guidance on the use of the facilities and the role of the Sheltered Housing Officer
  • promote and encourage the organisation of social activities in accordance with the residents' wishes and, where appropriate work in conjunction with any social club or residents committee
  • maintain the security of the communal premises and equipment and any vacant flats
  • in conjunction with the Neighbourhood Team, ensure the proper management and use of all communal areas and guest rooms and ensure common areas are properly and regularly cleaned
  • report repairs and faults as necessary
  • observe the provisions of the council's Health and Safety Policy, and be familiar with fire precautions, emergency procedures, lone working and carrying out risk assessments
  • carry out regular checks of alarm systems and report any faults immediately
  • report any safeguarding issues/concerns.

You will ensure that the council policies, procedures and risk assessments are strictly adhered to. Reporting to the Sheltered Housing Manager, you will have day-to-day responsibility for the cleaning staff. You may be required to work at locations across Babergh or Mid Suffolk other than your usual place of work to ensure cover is provided across our sheltered housing schemes.

What we are looking for in our Sheltered Housing Officer:

We are looking for a dedicated person who is organised, IT literate and able to manage a varied and sometimes challenging workload and can communicate well, showing empathy and compassion.

You will need to have the following:

  • A relevant qualification at NVQ2 or equivalent knowledge gained through experience.
  • Basic First Aid Certificate.
  • Knowledge of the needs of older people and an awareness of Safeguarding issues.
  • IT skills, with considerable experience of Microsoft Office package including Microsoft Excel and Teams.
  • An awareness of health and safety matters.
  • A driver's licence and access to own vehicle will be required.
