Senior Corporate M&A Associate

The Opportunity

  • The Lawyers provide clients with market-leading legal advice on their most important commercial transactions, including significant cross-border mergers and acquisitions, ground-breaking projects, complex capital markets fundraisings, financial regulation, inward investment, governance and risk management for companies' boards and corporate tax advice.
  • Clients include the world's leading corporates, banks, financial buyers, governments and public sector bodies.
  • The firm are one of the leading corporate legal advisers to FTSE-listed companies and are regularly ranked 1st by Adviser Rankings for a number of clients listed on FTSE100, FTSE250 and AIM.

Primary Objectives:

  • Deliver excellent client service and make an effective contribution to the firm's work by aiming to meet and exceed target hours.
  • Take responsibility for the delivery and quality of legal work and transaction management.
  • Act as a role model and contribute to the development of junior lawyers.
  • Take steps to build a strong reputation in the market and internally and contribute to non-legal firm initiatives and projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, delegate, and manage work - lead on client matters, including negotiation and the preparation of proposals, estimates and pitches; delegate work to juniors, supervising the team to support optimal utilisation; keep partner(s) informed and assist partners to monitor and control progress against agreed objectives, scope, timelines and budgets.
  • Manage client relationships - regularly engage with client and keep informed of progress; ensure all compliance and risk management processes are followed; propose fees and manage client expectations as to cost, quality and time; and seek opportunities for new work with existing and new clients.
  • Comply with risk requirements, firm policies and all relevant professional responsibilities and legislation and contribute to billing, engagement and client acceptance processes.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Qualified / admitted legal practitioner in a relevant international jurisdiction.
  • 4-6 years' PQE in corporate M&A, however we are open to considering candidates with more or less experience.
  • Solid legal skills, including drafting, negotiation and project management skills; good people management and business development skills.
