Our client is a leading Social Housing contractor established over 32 years. They are looking for a successful and proactive Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Carlisle, covering all works in the Cumbria and Northeast regions, to work within the commercial team delivering all aspects of the commercial, and contractual elements of designated projects using schedule of rates and traditional planned works contracts.

About You

They are looking for candidates who have previous experience in pricing roofing works including tiling, slating and flat roofs is desirable.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Quantity Surveying Degree (or demonstratable QBE).
  • Experience in working for a Principal Contractor.
  • Experience in pricing/estimating roofing (tiling, slating and flat roof works).
  • Experience in Social Housing Planned Works and Refurbishment Projects.
  • Demonstrate excellent planning and organisational skills.
  • Experience with tendering subcontract works.
  • Experience of advanced Microsoft Word and Excel spreadsheet.
  • Ability to read drawings and construction design information.
  • Preparing and agreeing site variations.
  • Good knowledge of contractual laws and construction legislation.

The Role

Your main responsibility will be to take responsibility, ownership, and accountability for the successful management and control of all aspects of the commercial/financial and contractual elements of your designated projects to maximise their client's profitability.

This is a varied role, and you will find yourself doing things such as:

  • Ensure initial estimates and cost plans are sufficient.
  • Understand and apply commercial and financial procedures and reporting systems.
  • Maintain detailed prelim forecasts and actual costs.
  • Produce accurate monthly forecasts.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the relationship between cost, value, and profit.
  • Supports the Contract Manager to manage risk and opportunities.
  • Describe the implications of differing forms of contract and their appropriate usage.
  • Manage the change process in accordance with the contract.
  • Assists in the preparation and completion of bid documentation to ensure a fully competitive tender.
