Could you support a child with Down Syndrome to access learning and build confidence in the classroom?

  • ** £81 - £102 per day
  • ** September 2025 – July 2026
  • ** Central Wolverhampton Primary School
  • ** Full-time, long-term role in Year 1
  • ** 1:1 support to a child with Down Syndrome

The Role

You'll work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to provide daily, consistent 1:1 support to a cheerful and inquisitive Year 1 child with Down Syndrome. Your role will be to help them access the curriculum, build routines, develop communication, and make the most of classroom life. Expect a blend of in-class support and breakout time, with a focus on building trust, using visual cues, and helping to manage transitions calmly.

The Candidate

You must be patient, warm, and genuinely interested in supporting children with additional needs. A degree in Psychology, Education, or a related subject is ideal, especially if you've studied developmental or communication-related modules. Any experience with Makaton, PECS, or sensory strategies will go a long way. Above all, you need to show empathy, resilience, and an instinctive ability to tune into a child's needs.

The School

This is a well-run, inclusive primary school in central Wolverhampton with a strong SEND team and positive leadership. Staff are experienced, collaborative, and proactive in supporting pupils with complex needs. You'll receive clear guidance, plenty of resources, and support from a knowledgeable SENCO who's keen to bring in a capable graduate who wants to learn and make a difference.
