Operations Manager

Our client, a fast-growing SME and supplier of products and services to the UK's highly regulated and non-destructive testing markets, are currently seeking an Operations Manager to join their team.

This is a full time, permanent opportunity, based in Dorchester, working Monday - Friday 08:30 - 17:00.

Applications must have a Full UK Driving Licence and access to their own vehicle.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, operations management, science, or a related field (Master's degree is a plus) or equivalent practical experience would be considered
  • Proven experience in Operations/science management or a related role.
  • Strong knowledge of processes, quality control, and supply chain management.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to identify and solve complex problems.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for this role.

The Operations Manager plays a critical hands-on role in overseeing the day-to-day management of our client's sites.

Team Management:

  • Lead and supervise teams, including hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Foster a positive and safe work environment while promoting teamwork and collaboration.

Resource Allocation:

  • Allocate resources such as workforce, equipment, and materials efficiently to optimise processes.
  • Manage inventory levels to avoid shortages or overstock situations.

Quality Control:

  • Implement and maintain quality control processes to ensure that products or services meet or exceed established standards.
  • Address quality issues and implement corrective actions when necessary.

Process Improvement:

  • Continuously identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains.
  • Implement Lean or Six Sigma principles to streamline operations.

Health and Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations and company policies to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Investigate and report any accidents or incidents and implement preventive measures.

Planning and Scheduling:

  • Develop and implement plans and schedules to meet customer demands and organisational goals.
  • Monitor progress and adjust schedules as needed to ensure on-time delivery.

This role involves managing teams, resources, and EHS. The Operations Manager is responsible for achieving targets, maintaining quality standards and driving continuous improvement in operations.

The Operations Manager is a key player in ensuring the organisation's distribution operations run smoothly, efficiently, and profitably while maintaining exacting standards of quality and safety. This role is essential for meeting customer expectations and achieving overall business objectives.
