Manual Machinist

A great opportunity has arisen for a machinist to join a leading supplier to the Oil & Gas & Offshore industries.

Job Description:

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and tolerances
  • Manufacture of components using manual milling machine and manual lathe to the required quality standards
  • Competent in the use of precision measuring devices
  • Complete Quality documentation (NCR, ECN etc.)
  • Carry out standard machine maintenance
  • Capable of working with limited supervision
  • Willing to undertake flexible working hours (may include overtime, shift work, ad hoc)
  • Complete administrative documentation (Timesheets, holidays etc)
  • Carry out job tasks safely using good working practices
  • Ensure good housekeeping at all times
  • Other duties to support the business operations as assigned
  • To manufacture components and parts, generally from aluminum, stainless steel and plastics, in accordance with drawings, technical specifications and tolerances.
  • To setup & operate manual milling machine and manual lathe including planning a sequence of operations to allow efficient manufacture.
  • Support LEAN activities within the machine shop to ensure maximum efficiency and minimize waste during the manufacturing processes.
  • Provide feedback on improvements to design and machine shop equipment to support efficient manufacture of components.

Beneficial Skills / Qualifications:

  • Apprentice trained in machine tools
  • Read and interpret drawings, specifications and tolerances
  • Operate manual milling machine to manufacture components
  • Operate manual lathe to manufacture components to quality requirements
  • Use precision measuring equipment
  • Must have good communication skills and ability to work well with others
  • Must be hard working and able to work under pressure
  • Minimum 3 years machine shop experience.
  • Working knowledge of standard measurements, such as those used for threads and tapers, and a good understanding of the working qualities of various metals and plastics.
  • Maintain behaviour in compliance with HSE requirements.
  • Maintain responsibility and accountability through personal commitment and behaviour.
  • Report any unsafe or environmentally unsound acts and conditions to their immediate Supervisor such that remedial action can be taken to manage the risk.

Additional Details:

  • Overtime paid at time and a half Mon-Sat and double time Sunday after 37 hours worked
  • 37 hours per week – 8.30am to 4.30pm Mon-Thurs and 8.30am to 4pm Friday with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break; flexi-time is available between 7.30 and 9am and 4 and 6pm (4.30pm on Fridays)
