Your new company
You will be working within a specialist school situated in the countryside that is dedicated to supporting children and young people aged 7-19 with specific learning difficulties including dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia. The schools' curriculum is specialised and designed to address the individual needs of each student, employing a range of multisensory teaching approaches and assistive technologies. With small class sizes and personalised learning plans, the students receive the attention and tailored support they need to succeed. The schools offer a blend of academic instruction, therapeutic support and extracurricular activities to foster well-rounded development.

The school is set in expansive, historic grounds and features beautifully maintained gardens, open green spaces and wooded areas, providing students with ample opportunities for outdoor activities and exploration. Student housing is provided in comfortable, home-like boarding accommodation. These residences are designed to create a supportive and inclusive community atmosphere, with a dedicated house staff team who ensure the well-being and safety of all boarders. Common areas within the boarding houses encourage social interaction and foster a sense of camaraderie amongst the students.

Your new role
As a Houseparent, you will live and work within the residential boarding house, as part of the pastoral team. It is envisaged that you will play a full part in boarding and supervising students and taking part in trips and activities. You will also be attached to the curriculum area and will contribute to the work of this department as well as other areas within the school.
In the House:

  • To assist with boarding duties and help ensure the smooth running of the boarding houses.
  • To reside overnight in the Boarding House from 9pm during term time on allocated rota nights; unless a separate arrangement has been made with the Head of Boarding.
  • To report any relevant or confidential student issues to either the Head of Boarding/Houseparents.
  • To contribute to the pastoral care and welfare of students in the House.
  • To help promote student participation in a wide range of activities.

In school:

  • Provide teaching and learning support in lessons, including PE.
  • Plan and deliver activities which support learning in lessons.
  • Work with small groups/individuals within lessons.
  • Provide intervention for groups/students in lessons and outside of lessons.
  • Support with co-curricular activity.
  • Support with examinations.
