Privacy Officer

This is an opportunity to work within an SSL Central team that provides expert support to all SSL services and their clients; working with a breadth of internal and external stakeholders as well as other Sopra Steria business areas covering a variety of topics.

The SSL Privacy Manager will work with the Data Privacy Business Partners and Data Privacy Champions to help ensure the compliance of the organisation and report into the Head of Privacy for SSL.

This is an exciting time to join our Privacy team. The role is open to an individual who will assist in implementing new ways of working across the business, as well as managing existing workload - ensuring appropriate governance to compliance arrangements are in place. The role will help to ensure that SSL complies with Data Protection Legislation, providing assurances to SSL that we are protecting the personal and commercially valuable data SSL processes every day.

This is a flexible role, including hybrid working remotely with occasional face to face meetings for collaboration, client meetings and team meetings.

What you will be doing:

  • Directly supporting the Head of Privacy in SSL, your role will be varied and will include working with colleagues at all levels of the business to ensure that our business meets the various data protection compliance requirements and maintain client confidence in our safeguarding and use of personal data.
  • You will have responsibility for ensuring privacy by design is implemented within the business, and throughout the natural evolution of services within SSL, including but not limited to DPIA's, RoPA's, Data Privacy Notices, Cookie Policies, Information Asset Registers.
  • You will be responsible for working on and in some cases delivering Audit Reporting, MI Reporting (monthly, quarterly, annually) and supporting continuous improvement and service delivery, in line with contractual service performance SLA's,
  • You will be involved in triaging any data protection related issues and supporting the resolution or escalation of them to the relevant teams/subcontractors. This includes managing risks / issues / escalations inclusive of any breaches, escalations and subsequent assurance as needed.
  • Expertise in managing Data Subject Rights (Subject Access Requests, Requests for Erasure etc.) as required - ensuring legal timescales are met and risks of fines/sanctions are mitigated.
  • You will support monthly managed service performance packs (data protection compliance elements) for the Head of Service and support during supplier review meetings with.
  • You will support the Head of Privacy in regular meetings across the business
  • This role will be responsible for ensuring the use and adherence to best (quality) practice for data use and legislative compliance of the overall end to end managed service.

What you'll bring:

  • Information governance/data protection experience, general management and stakeholder management
  • Ability to understand privacy and transparency legislation and ensure compliance via practical implementation of policy/process/guidance.
  • A team player who is experienced working in a varied and demanding environment, where understanding their impact on Client contracts and commercials is crucial.
  • Positive experience of developing both client and supplier relations for positive outcomes.
  • Understanding of the sensitive nature of personal data, and the sensitivity of that data, both in light of legislation and in how it is regarded by the data subjects.

It would be great if you had:

  • CIPP/E or CIPM or working towards would be great
  • GDPR or Privacy Legislation related qualifications
  • Ability and experience of solving day to day business problems.
  • Demonstrates the tenacity and has the experience to handle difficult stakeholder and supplier situations.
  • Key analytical skills
